Avalanche Activity

NC for 2/4: Unstable windslab on SE to SW aspects above 900m. Later above 1000m on NE to SE aspects. Cornices unstable. Moderate Haz

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable accumulations of windslab will remain on South-East to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Areas most affected will be steep and convex terrain, the tops of gullies and corrie rims. Fragile cornices will overhang these areas. Later in the day some redistribution of snow with new unstable windslab developing on North-East to South-East aspects above 1000 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light snow showers overnight will clear to leave a dry day with sunny spells. Light Northerly winds will increase to moderate through the afternoon and become West-North-Westerly in direction. The 600 metre freezing level will steadily rise through the day to 800 metres. Observed Weather Influences: A cold day with light Westerly winds. Dry through the morning, light snowfall during the afternoon. The freezing level was around 600 metres. ObservedSnowStability: There is a cover of soft snow on all aspects above 600 metres. Windslab accumulations are present on South-East to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Although some consolidation has taken place, instabilities were observed within deeper accumulations. Areas most affected are around coire rims, gully exits and steep convex terrain. On these aspects cornices remain fragile. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
