Avalanche Activity

Wet-snow situation worsening due to solar radiation and possible rain showers

Favorable conditions still reign in the morning. Avalanche danger will increase through possible rain showers during the day from LOW to MODERATE. In steep terrain in all aspects, increasingly frequent naturally triggered wet loose-snow avalanches can release. On steep high-altitude slopes, triggerings are possible through large additional loading. Glide-snow avalanches in steep grass-covered terrain are possible at any time of day or night. Heed glide cracks and fishbones!

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack in early morning is melt-freeze encrusted, then softens and moistens very quickly on sunny slopes in particular. On shady slopes the snowpack is hard and icy only at high altitudes. Due to rainfall the process of the snowpack becoming wet continues, which destabilizes it in all aspects.

Weather Synopsis

Friday will begin with sunshine, then convective cloud build-up is expected during the day. In Niedere Tauern and Turrach-to-Pack, minor rain showers cannot be ruled out. Temperatures can drop slightly. At midday at 2000 m: +3 degrees. Light northerly winds.

Tendency

Hardly any change in weather and avalanche conditions is expected.
