SC 17.03 Mostly older firm snow with shallow deposits on N, E to SE aspects above 900m. Avalanche hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: The majority of the snowpack will be firm and well bonded. New unstable accumulations will develop during the day mainly in wind sheltered locations on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. These are not expected to be of extensive depth or distribution. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will be around 600 metres overnight, rising to around 1000 metres by afternoon. Light snow showers during the day, turning to rain at lower levels as the freezing level rises. Winds will strengthen becoming gale force, mainly South-West then West-South-West. Observed Weather Influences: The cloud base was initially around 700 metres, slowly breaking from early afternoon. The freezing level was around 900 metres with light snow showers above this level. There was no descernible wind. ObservedSnowStability: The snow has softened but remains generally well bonded and stable throughout. Most aspects are still holding snow with greatest coverage found on West through North to East aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
