Winter sport participants can release avalanches in isolated cases, with a large load in most cases. Avalanches can in very isolated cases penetrate deep layers and reach medium size. The fresh snow and the wind slabs that are forming in particular adjacent to ridgelines must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on steep shady slopes and at high altitude. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on steep west, north and east facing slopes above the tree line.

Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In some regions in some localities up to 10 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above the tree line. Shady slopes where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are dangerous. As a consequence of mild temperatures and solar radiation the snowpack consolidated during the last few days.
