Avalanche danger low, little snow.

Avalanche danger low. Only in some places in high, steep and shady gullies and bowls small avalanches within the old snow can be triggered with high additional loads. The surface of the snow cover is often hard. Risk of injuries is more likely than risks of falling or being buried.

Snowpack Structure

In general the snow amount is below the average. Southern slopes and exposed areas are predominately bare. The thin snow cover is solidified on the surface with hoar. Elsewhere it is wet even in high altitudes. In places in northern and eastern exposed high-altitudes areas thin layers of snowdrift on top of an old snow cover which is weakened due to kinetic metamorphosis (faceting).

Weather Forecast

Located on the edge of a high pressure system over ther northern Sea, cold air masses coming from east are streaming towards the eastern Alps. Thursday will start sunny with thin clouds, in some places high fog areas cant be found in some places. Until the afternoon clouds on lower and medium altitudes are appearing. In the western mountains the temperatures in 2.000 m at noon are around -3 degrees and in 1.500 around -2 degrees on the edge of the eastern Alps around -6 respectivly -5 degrees. Weak easterly winds. Friday the weather is forecasted as predominatley cloudy and the summits will be foggy. Alongside the edges of the mountains little amount of snowfall is called. It will be significantly colder in teh easter than in the western mountains.

The Avalanche danger is not significantly changing.
