A generally favourable avalanche situation will prevail.

Individual avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular in extremely steep terrain. In isolated cases avalanches can be triggered in the weakly bonded old snow. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.

Snowpack The snowpack is thoroughly moist on south facing slopes up to the high Alpine regions and moist on the surface on north facing slopes up to altitudes of approximately 2200 m. During the partly overcast night, only a thin crust will form on the snow surface. In response to the increasing cloud and falling temperatures, however, the danger of wet snow avalanches will increase only a little as the day progresses. Isolated wet snow slides and gliding avalanches remain possible, in particular under the influence of solar radiation. On west, north and east facing slopes, faceted and loosely bonded layers exist in the snowpack over a wide area. On the northern flank of the Alps, these layers are often to be found near the surface of the snowpack; in southern Valais and in Grisons, the entire snowpack is faceted and loosely bonded in some cases. The snow depths are well below average. On the flat sites occupied by the measuring stations, the recorded values are as much as one to two-thirds lower than usual. Fresh snow - Temperature At midday at 2000 m: about +6 °C Wind Light Weather forecast through Wednesday, 22.02.2023 Tuesday night will be partly cloudy and the outgoing longwave radiation will be reduced. In the morning there will be bright spells in particular in the east and south and in Valais. In the other regions and in the afternoon it will be mostly cloudy. Fresh snow - Temperature At midday at 2000 m: about +3 °C Wind Mostly light from the southwest Outlook through Friday, 24.02.2023 On Wednesday night, light snowfall will arrive from the west. During the day, a little snow will fall over a wide area. On Friday the weather will be changeable. In the south in particular, a few centimetres of snow may fall. On each of the coming days, the snowfall level will be approximately 1500 m. In the mountains the wind will be occasionally moderate from the southwest. Towards Thursday the danger of dry avalanches may increase a little in the west and south. On Friday the danger will not change significantly. Wet snow avalanches are no longer to be expected. Isolated gliding avalanches can still occur.
