Considerable avalanche danger will be encountered in some regions. Wet avalanches during the day.

Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in extremely steep terrain. Even a snow slide can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack In particular on north facing slopes over a wide area above approximately 2200 m, faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack. In Valais and on the northern flank of the Alps, these weak layers are mostly embedded deep. In some places here and in particular in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow, avalanches can still be released in these faceted layers of old snow. In Grisons and northern Ticino, these weak layers are closer to the surface. In particular in Grisons, they can still be released easily in some cases. Places in which avalanches can be released by people are slowly becoming less prevalent, but large avalanches still remain a possibility for the time being. The snowpack has already been penetrated by moisture to a large extent on south facing slopes, including up to high alpine regions. On west facing slopes as well, the snowpack has already become thoroughly moist up to approximately 3000 m. Thorough moistening is in progress on east facing slopes between 2300 and 2700 m, and on north facing slopes between 1500 and 1800 m. Observed weather review Monday, 20.03.2023 After a mostly overcast night with little precipitation, from the early morning it became increasingly sunny from the west. Fresh snow While precipitation was falling, the snowfall level dropped from 1700 m to 1300 m. The following amounts of snow fell in the period from Sunday evening until Monday morning:

• Northern Lower Valais, Alpstein region: 10 to 20 cm
• Rest of the northern flank of the Alps, Valais, and from northern Grisons into Lower Engadine: 5 to 10 cm
• Elsewhere: smaller amounts or no precipitation

Temperature At midday at 2000 m: between +1 °C in the north and +3 °C in the west and south Wind

• Mostly light
• In Alpstein and the central part of the main Alpine ridge, sometimes moderate from northerly directions

In the afternoon cloud will build up from the west. During the day it will be mostly sunny at first, but in the afternoon cloud will build up from the west. The wind will be light to moderate from westerly directions. The zero degree level will remain at approximately 2500 m. The danger of dry avalanches will decrease slowly. The danger of wet snow and gliding avalanches will vary slightly during the day. Thursday Both during the night and in the daytime there will be variable to dense cloud cover. In the north a little precipitation may fall; the south will remain dry. The southwesterly wind will be light to moderate. It will continue to become a little milder. The danger of dry avalanches will decrease slowly. A few wet snow and gliding avalanches remain possible at any time.
