Avalanche Activity

The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality. Moist and wet avalanches are the main danger.

As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase quickly. They can in some cases be released by small loads and reach medium size. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular at the base of rock walls and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Old wind slabs are to be found adjacent to ridgelines on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes and at high altitudes. These can be released, in particular by large loads. Backcountry tours should be concluded timely.

Snowpack Structure

Little rain will fall in some localities. This applies below approximately 2000 m. The weather conditions will cause a weakening of the snowpack. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will soften quickly. In some regions only a little snow is lying on south facing slopes. The older wind slabs are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility.

Tendency

Until Monday the weather will be mild. In some localities light rain to below 2000 m.
