New snow and wind slabs at intermediate and high altitudes.

In particular in the regions exposed to precipitation as well as at intermediate and high altitudes wind slabs will form. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation this applies especially along the border with France. The fresh snow as well as the mostly small wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant above approximately 2500 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in steep terrain at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions and at transitions into gullies and bowls.

10 to 5 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 2200 m. In particular in shady places that are protected from the wind, high altitudes: Towards its surface, the snowpack is soft; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. Low and intermediate altitudes: As a consequence of falling temperatures and rain a crust formed on the surface. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes.
