Snowpack Structure

The rain will give rise to increasing and thorough wetting of the snowpack in all aspects below approximately 2200 m. These conditions will cause a weakening of the snowpack.

Avalanche Activity

New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.

The surface of the snowpack is hardly frozen at all and will already soften in the late morning. Up to the tree line and above rain will fall until Tuesday over a wide area. As a consequence of the rain, the likelihood of wet avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep slopes. During the morning as well, individual, then as the precipitation becomes heavier more wet avalanches are possible. The new snow can be released easily or naturally in all aspects above approximately 2200 m. Extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and great restraint are required.
