In sintesi

Temperature inversions strengthened overnight with the mountains starting out around 20 degrees warmer than the valleys. The snowpack is mostly stable, and avalanches are unlikely. In terrain above 9,000 feet where snow surfaces have remained dry, skiers and riders might be able to trigger a small, isolated pocket of slab on very steep, avalanche prone slopes. The main hazard is still the early season, shallow snowpack which is becoming more pronounced on aspects significantly impacted by the sun. As high pressure continues, take a mental note where sun crusts and faceted layers have formed near the surface of the snowpack.

Avalanche Discussion

Tuesday will be much like today with clear skies and temperature inversions. Upper elevations are to start in the upper twenties to low thirties while valleys start off near or below zero. Temperatures are to reach near forty in higher terrain while low terrain hits the mid-twenties. The snowpack is stable and the avalanche danger will be Low. Remember that extended dry periods promote the development of weak snow types and crusts. This is amplified when snow depths are low like they are now as steeper temperature gradients further drive faceting. The current snow surfaces will likely be a problem once real storms impact the area so noting where crusts, faceted snow, and surface hoar lies now can help to make better future travel decisions.
