While unlikely, skiers and riders might be able to trigger a persistent slab avalanche on a variety of aspects above 7,500 feet. These low probability/high consequence events are most likely to fail on buried surface hoar and near surface facets or faceted snow surrounding crusts, and slab depths are likely to range from two to four feet. Although weak, basal facets are widespread below 7,500 feet, numerous warming and cooling cycles have created mostly stable conditions.
