Avalanche Activity

Slight increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.

In some regions 5 to 10 cm of snow, but less in some localities, has fallen. The wind slabs can be released in some cases on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2400 m. They are to be avoided in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling,, in isolated cases also in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow is lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. The snowpack is faceted. The sometimes strong wind will transport the fresh and old snow significantly. In high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In all regions as well as in all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
