Wet loose avalanches are the most likely avalanche problem. Most of these avalanches are expected to be small, but medium‑sized avalanches may also occur. Remember that even small avalanches can be dangerous in steep and exposed terrain, as they consist of heavy, dense snow.

At higher elevations, there is still layering in the snowpack. When meltwater penetrates downward, these layers can weaken and produce wet slab avalanches. Such avalanches are difficult to forecast and can be larger than typical loose‑snow avalanches. In addition, glide avalanches may occur where water accumulates above smooth bed surfaces such as rock slabs.

Mildvær og regn vil øke vanninnholdet i snødekket ytterligere. Mange steder er snødekket smelteomvandlet, grovkornet og drenerer vann godt. Likevel kan våte skred fortsatt løsne naturlig på utsatte steder, særlig dersom mildværet blir mer omfattende enn ventet. Våte løssnøskred er det mest sannsynlige skredproblemet. De fleste ventes å være små, men middels store skred kan forekomme.

Høyt til fjells finnes det fortsatt lagdeling i snødekket. Når smeltevann trenger ned i snødekket, kan disse lagene svekkes og gi våte flakskred. Slike skred er vanskelige å varsle og kan bli større enn typiske løssnøskred. I tillegg kan glideskred forekomme der vann samler seg over glatte underlag som svaberg.

Snowpack Structure

Snøoverflaten har et tydelig vårlig preg, og det har vært kraftig smelting den siste tiden. Sammenhengende snø finnes fra omtrent 200–300 moh og oppover, avhengig av hvor i regionen du befinner deg. Det er mest snø i nordvendt terreng og i indre strøk.

I høyfjellet og i skyggevendt terreng kan det fortsatt finnes lagdeling og enkelte eldre svake lag dypt i snødekket. Ved rask oppvarming, mye regn eller skavlbrudd kan store skred ikke utelukkes.

An overcast night followed by a sunny afternoon with high temperatures will increase the water content in the snowpack. In many areas, the snowpack is melt‑transformed, coarse‑grained, and drains water well. However, wet avalanches may still release naturally in exposed terrain, especially on steep, sun‑exposed slopes. Wet loose avalanches are the most likely avalanche problem. Most are expected to be small, but medium‑sized avalanches may occur.

At higher elevations, layering in the snowpack is still present, particularly in northern aspects. With strong meltwater production, water can percolate downward and weaken these layers, potentially triggering wet slab avalanches. These avalanches are difficult to forecast and can be larger than typical loose‑snow avalanches. Glide avalanches may also occur where water accumulates above smooth bed surfaces such as rock slabs. In addition, cornices may weaken and break as temperatures rise.
