Avalanche Activity

New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.

Medium-sized and large moist and wet avalanches are to be expected. This applies especially at low and intermediate altitudes. As before wet avalanches can reach a long way in steep gullies. In particular on very steep slopes the avalanches can release the moist old snow as well and reach quite a large size, in particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The fresh snow and the sometimes large wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 20 to 40 cm of snow, but less in some localities, has fallen since yesterday above approximately 2700 m. The southeasterly wind will transport the snow. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. Intensive rain to intermediate altitudes: The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack.
