Avalanche Activity

Natural moist avalanches are possible in isolated cases as before. The wind slabs of last week can be released, especially by large additional loads, at elevated altitudes.

In gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain as well as in high Alpine regions mostly small wind slabs formed. They can be released, especially by large additional loads, at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. In addition the danger of dry and moist avalanches will increase in the late morning. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 2700 m.

Snowpack Structure

The high temperatures in the late morning will give rise to gradual moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day.
