In sintesi

A skiff of new snow late in the week has done little to change our avalanche danger or our riding conditions.  It remains unlikely that riders will trigger avalanches on Saturday.

Avalanche Discussion

During my field work today, it appeared that the terrain above 7000 ft. had picked up 1 cm (less than half an inch) of new snow.  This didn't change things too much at those higher elevations.  Those slopes that previously had dry snow, still do.  Similarly, it didn't do much to improve the riding conditions on sunnier slopes.  Looking across the lake to North Paulina Peak, many of the south facing slopes are completely bare.  At lake elevation the precipitation must have ended a bit wetter and now there is a delicate melt-freeze crust on the snow surface.

Of course, we are all ready for a change in the weather for the colder and snowier!  I am pleased and impressed that we are still able to ride at all in the monument after so much dry and warm weather!
