Avalanche Activity

New snow requires caution.

Over a wide area 20 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until the evening above approximately 1900 m. As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes moderate wind from northeasterly directions, mostly small wind slabs will form in the course of the day. The fresh wind slabs will be covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. The fresh snow and the wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released by a single winter sport participant. This applies in particular on steep slopes at intermediate and high altitudes, as well as in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. The sleet will give rise to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 1800 m. In particular on very steep grassy slopes and in extremely steep terrain small to medium-sized gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible as the penetration by moisture increases.

Snowpack Structure

40 to 60 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until the evening above approximately 1900 m. The fresh snow and the mostly small wind slabs that are forming at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions will be deposited on a crust in particular on sunny slopes above approximately 2000 m. The fresh snow will be rather moist. Especially in areas with smaller amounts of fresh snow, this will favour bonding with the old snowpack. The sleet will give rise to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 1800 m.

Tendency

Medium-sized natural avalanches are possible on very steep slopes.
