Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Little change in the morning but by afternoon accumulations of fresh unstable windslab will develop mainly on North to East aspects above 800 metres. South-East aspects will also be affected due to cross loading. Steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims and gully tops will be most affected particularly where accumulations develop over old snow. Unstable cornices will also develop throughout the day. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Remaining cold overnight with the freezing level rising to around 800 metres or so by end of this period. A dry morning is expected with increasingly heavier snowfall in the afternoon. Winds will be light first thing becoming gale force from the South-East by the end of the day. Observed Weather Influences: There was some variance in the freezing level, 800 metres overnight, then up to 1000 metres by early afternoon, then dropping to 900 metres. Some new snowfall overnight and late afternoon. There was a strong breeze rom the West throughout. ObservedSnowStability: New soft and generally shallow deposits had developed above 850 metres on North through East to South-East aspects. Isolated deeper deposits were noted around corrie rims and gully tops. Older snow remained firm. The avalanche hazard is Low.
