Avalanche Activity

Slab avalanches and wet avalanches during the day are the main danger.

The sometimes strong wind has transported a lot of snow. The fresh snow and in particular the wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases, in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible. In addition as the day progresses at low and intermediate altitudes, moist and wet avalanches are to be expected. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for defensive route selection.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 30 to 40 cm of snow fell on Sunday above approximately 1500 m. The weather conditions facilitated a settling of the snowpack. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to rapid moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes below approximately 2700 m. Especially steep shady slopes high altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Weak layers exist in the old snowpack here. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as at high altitude snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.

Tendency

The danger of moist and wet avalanches will decrease gradually.
