Avalanche Activity

Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes at elevated altitudes.

Single winter sport participants can release avalanches in isolated cases. These can be triggered in near-surface layers. Avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas at elevated altitudes. Additionally in very isolated cases avalanches can also penetrate near-ground layers of the snowpack and reach medium size. Caution is to be exercised in particular on very steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 1900 m. As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase a little on very steep sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

The mostly shallow wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack, especially on very steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 1900 m. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak, especially on shady slopes above approximately 1900 m. Steep sunny slopes: The weather conditions will give rise to moistening of the snowpack.

Tendency

Increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and wind.
