Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Windslab will continue to develop with avalanches likely on W to N aspects above 850m. Steep locations especially affected including gullies, corrie head walls and convexities. Cross loading on SW and NE aspects. Between 500 and 850m, the snowpack will be moderately bonded on steep banks and burn lines. Cornices will become increasingly unstable during the temperature rise. Later in the day the snowpack will begin to consolidate mainly at lower levels. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Spells of snowfall throughout the forecast period. Gale force East-South-Easterly winds will ease to strong through the afternoon. The 600 metre freezing level will steadily rise to almost summit levels by the end of the forecast period. Observed Weather Influences: Persistent light snowfall throughout the day on strong to gale force South-Easterly winds. The freezing level was around 600 metres. ObservedSnowStability: New windslab has developed above 500 metres mainly on Westerly to Northerly aspects, cross loading has affected South-West and North-East aspects. The greatest instability is above 850 metres in steep locations such as coire head walls, gullies and convexities. Fragile cornices overhang these areas. Between 500 and 850 metres localised accumulations of moderately bonded windslab have developed on steep banks and burn lines. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
