CM for 26.12 New unstable windslab forming mainly on N-E-SE aspects above 850m. Cornices also. Old snowpack refrozen. Haz Moderate

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will be deposited in wind sheltered areas from midnight onwards, mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 850 metres. Weak cornices will build above these aspects. The surface of the old snowpack will refreeze and be stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: During the evening Westerly winds will strengthen and back to strong West-South-Westerly; easing moderate Westerly during the afternoon. The freezing level will be around 400 metres. From midnight onwards showers are expected to fall as snow above around 250 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Strong South-Westerly winds eased moderate and veered West-South-Westerly during the morning. The freezing level dropped to around 800 metres. Light showers fell as snow above around 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh windslab is being deposited in wind sheltered areas mainly on North to East aspects above 900 metres. Accumulations are not extensive and have not gained significant depth. The old snowpack is generally stable; its surface starting to refreeze above 800 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
