Avalanche Activity

Fresh snowdrift accumulations will be generated due to increasing winds

With ascending altitude the fresh snowdrift accumulations become more prone to triggering in ridgeline zones, gullies and bowls, behind abrupt discontinuities in the terrain. Danger zones increase in frequency and size over the course of the day. Even small releases can bury a person in snow masses or force a fall. In steep rocky terrain, small loose-snow avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

Intermittently moderate-to-strong winds will transport the snow in high altitude ridgeline and summit zones. Fresh snowdrift accumulations will form: they are prone to triggering! In wind-protected terrain below the treeline, the latest batch of fresh snow is very loose.

Weather Synopsis

Nocturnal hours: in the early part of the night, snow showers are still possible, later skies will clear. Monday: sunny until afternoon, adequate visibility, clouds will move in later on, the light become more diffuse. Peaks from Arlberg to Silvretta will be in fog. At 2000 m: -8 degrees. Strong to stormy easterly winds.

Tendency

On Tuesday, increasingly sunny. Temperatures will rise noticeably. Strong easterly winds will transport the snow at high altitudes. Avalanche danger will decrease gradually at high altitude.
