Avalanche Activity

The fresh snow of yesterday and the sometimes large wind slabs formed during the snowfall represent the main danger.

The fresh snow and the sometimes large wind slabs can be released easily or naturally above approximately 2300 m. This applies especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Additionally avalanches can also penetrate deep layers. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of snowfall and the strong wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed. The new snow and wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on steep north, northeast facing slopes.
