SC 07.03.23 Localised accumulations of windslab on E through S to SW above 900 metres. Avalanche hazard - Moderate .
Forecast Snow Stability: Accumulations of moderately bonded windslab will continue to develop, mostly on East through South to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Steep wind sheltered locations such as gully tops and corrie rims will be worst affected. Elsewhere, exposed terrain will remain very firm and icy. Isolated pockets of deeper snow will also be found at lower levels. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Remaining cold, freezing to all levels. Light snowfall mainly expected overnight but potentially an occasional shower during the day. Moderate winds throughout, North overnight, North-North-Westerlies through the day. Observed Weather Influences: There was a mix of sunshine and snow showers down to the glens today. The air temperature was -4 degrees celsius at 900 metres during the early afternoon but it felt much colder in the moderate North-Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: There was a covering of snow from around 700 metres with unstable windslab achieving depth in wind sheltered locations on East to South aspects above 900 metres. Stability is poorest where accumulations have developed over older snow-ice, particularly on steep terrain such as corrie rims and gully tops. Scoured terrain is very firm and icy. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
