Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of the rain the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses.

During the day: Rain to the high Alpine regions. As the penetration by moisture increases more natural wet avalanches are possible, in particular medium-sized ones. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the high Alpine regions, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

The surface of the snowpack is hardly frozen at all. The rain will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack over a wide area. Moist and wet avalanches can in isolated cases be triggered in the old snowpack and reach quite a large size. Already many medium-sized and large avalanches have been released in the last few days.
