Avalanche Activity

The more recent wind slabs represent the main danger. The prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase with altitude.

The fresh wind slabs represent the main danger. The fresh wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. The wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence above approximately 2200 m. Weak layers in the old snowpack necessitate defensive route selection.

Snowpack Structure

The sometimes storm force wind has transported the loosely bonded old snow. The wind slabs have formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines and generally at high altitudes. Wind slabs are mostly easy to recognise are to be assessed with care and prudence. Avalanche prone weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes.
