New snow and wind slabs represent the main danger, especially at high altitude.

As a consequence of new snow and a strong wind from westerly directions, sometimes deep wind slabs formed at elevated altitudes. These can be released by a single winter sport participant in particular on north to east to south facing aspects above approximately 2500 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found on steep slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions the avalanche prone locations are more widespread. Gradual decrease in danger of moist avalanches as the temperature drops, in the regions exposed to rain in particular.

The sleet gave rise on Monday to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2500 m. As a consequence of sharply falling temperatures the snowpack will consolidate during the next few days. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are bonding well with the old snowpack in particular on steep sunny slopes below approximately 2600 m. Snow depths vary greatly at intermediate altitudes, depending on the infuence of the wind. Below approximately 2100 m only a little snow is lying.

As a consequence of falling temperatures, the natural avalanche activity will gradually decrease.
