You can trigger an avalanche on steep, wind-loaded slopes that held old October snow prior to this weekend's storm. In these areas, you can easily trigger a small avalanche that breaks near the ground taking you for a dangerous, rocky ride. Some of these avalanches may grow large enough to bury you in areas with large fetches on the windward side of ridgelines. If you see shooting cracks or hear collapsing avoid traveling on or under slopes about 30 degrees or steeper as this is a sign that you could trigger an avalanche from a distance or from below.
