Avalanche Summary

Dangerous avalanche conditions exist at upper elevations and in open areas that catch and hold wind-drifted snow. The most dangerous slopes face easterly. Strong winds on Friday and Saturday will drift new snow into cohesive slabs in open areas, below ridgelines, and on steep gully walls. These fresh slabs rest on a weak layer buried between two and four feet deep. You may not see any warning signs, such as cracking and collapsing, and multiple people can ride on a slope before someone finds a weak spot and triggers a large avalanche. Seek wind-sheltered slopes less than about 30 degrees for safer travel options.
