At the high elevations pockets of surface slab exist in steep avalanche terrain. At mid elavations small isolated pockets of slab exist on very steep wind loaded features. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.
Slabs formed by wind could be triggered by backcountry skiers and riders today with depths up to two feet. The slabs are most likely to be found in very steep couliors and in cliff and rocky areas where wind loading has occured.
High pressure is to build in overnight. Skies are to be mostly clear in the morning. Limited pacific moisture from northwest is to increase clouds and bring some mountain snow showers in the afternoon. Temperatures are to rise from the single digits to the mid twenties. Northwest winds are to have ten to fifteen mile per hour averages. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate above 8500 feet. Recent storms and strong winds from varying directions have formed surface slabs in very steep avalanche terrain. Areas most susceptible are couloirs and wind loaded areas in and around cliff bands. Below 8500 feet isolated pockets to a foot in depth could be triggered in certain steep features where snow collects.
