Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will rapidly form in wind sheltered locations on mainly South-East, South and South-West aspects above 800 metres with some cross-loading expected. Deepest accumulations will form in the North of the forecast area. Drifts will also develop at lower elevations. Fragile cornices will form. Areas exposed to the wind will remain scoured and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Snowfall throughout the period with greatest amounts falling in the North of the forecast area. Northerly winds, reaching gale force by the end of the afternoon. 450 metre freezing level. Observed Weather Influences: A cold, dry and calm day. Bright spells during the morning with cloud building during the afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: There is a thin covering of snow from glen level with exposed locations wind scoured. Isolated deeper accumulations are present in wind sheltered locations on East to South aspects above 900 metres. Distribution is limited but this localised windslab is only moderately well bonded. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
