Forecast Snow Stability: The older snowpack will remain firm overnight, softening as the freezing level rises. It will be well bonded and stable. Minor wet snow surface instabilities will develop within the new snow on steeper terrain from mid morning. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Forecast Weather Influences: Westerly winds will veer overnight to South-South-Westerly and will remain strong to gale force. Light snow showers will clear by midnight with no further precipitation expected. The freezing level will be around 400 metres, rising steadily through the morning to be above the highest summits by early afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: South-Westerly winds gained strength to become gale force by early afternoon. Isolated showers became more persistent during the day, easing with some brighter spells in the afternoon. The freezing level was around 800 metres overnight before rising to near summit level, falling to 600 metres in the afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: The older existing snowpack remains generally stable and well bonded. Minor amounts of drifted snow were visible on the higher summits especially on steeper wind sheltered terrain on North to East aspects above 850 metres. These deposits are shallow and are not widespread. At lower levels the snowpack is thawing. The avalanche hazard is Low.
