In sintesi

Avalanche danger is low after weather conditions from the last week have led to firm, icy conditions in the upper snowpack. A slip or fall in these conditions could lead to injury, travel with caution, mantain good edge control, and be mindful of steep terrain where it could be difficult to self arrest.

Avalanche Discussion

Spring like conditions persisted this week at the upper elevations of Douglas island. A strong temperature inversion over the past several days has kept alpine temps largely above freezing however upper layers of the snow pack have tended to stay quite firm due to radiational cooling within the snowpack.  The current weather pattern is expected to finally change this weekend as the inversion is forcasted to break down today and chances of snow return to the forecast Sunday.
