Triggering avalanches in wet snow will be possible on Sunday. Any avalanches that occur will mostly likely be small, but terrain features like rocks, cliffs, trees, and gullies can make things worse. Avoid steep terrain in the direct sun if the snow becomes slushy.

    Although temperatures were relatively cooler on Saturday, the sun quickly warmed and softened the snow surface, especially on steeper solar aspects. This time of year, it doesn't take much sun to affect the snow (Happy Spring!). On Sunday, daytime highs could reach the mid- to upper-40s Fahrenheit in the mountains. If you're traveling on steep terrain at any elevation, and especially if the snow is sun-exposed, pay attention to how deeply your boots sink into the snow. If you sink past your ankles, that's a good reason to move to lower angle slopes. In addition, natural avalanches and snowballs rolling down the slope are indicators of an increasing wet loose avalanche hazard. These would be most likely on steep, sun-facing terrain around rocks and cliffbands. 

    Overnight lows on Saturday-Sunday will dip into the 20s F, which is much colder than in recent days. The snowpack should get a solid overnight refreeze, which means it will take longer for things to warm up on Sunday. This should also help reduce the cornice fall hazard. Nevertheless, cornices are tricky to predict, so it's always a good idea to give them some space.
