In sintesi

On Monday, Wind slab avalanches will be likely and large.  Use extreme caution if you choose to ski on North or East slopes at treeline or in the alpine.  As the day progresses and the snow piles up, avalanche danger will increase on slopes below treeline.  Once snowfall totals reach a foot, it may be wise to dial back your riding.

    Heavy snowfall and Strong winds will create Wind Slabs.  We sometimes see unpredictable loading patterns when we have very Strong winds; often the wind loading extends lower in the terrain, or further down slope than with Moderate wind speeds.  Watching for cracking and any snow that is more cohesive than what you may have skinned through in meadows or the forrest.

  • Storm Slabs

    Very heavy snowfall often leads to Storm Slab avalanches.  Similarly, warming temperatures into Monday morning could provide "upside down" storm snow and shallow avalanches first thing in the day. 

    As the day progresses the size of potential avalanches will increase, but cooling temperatures could help moderate the storm slab problem.

    Your best bet is to start with conservative terrain and utilize small test slopes, hand shears, and other observations along your skin track to evaluate the extent of the Storm Slab problem.

  • Loose Dry

    Heavy snowfall will contribute to a Dry Loose avalanche problem by midday.  Dry Loose avalanches are not necessarily mutually exclusive with Storm Slabs, and we may see a mix of the two tomorrow.
