Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind an unfavourable avalanche situation will be encountered in some localities. On shady slopes a moderate avalanche danger will prevail.

A lot more new snow than expected in the south: In some regions up to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. Avalanches can in isolated cases be released, mostly by large loads, caution is to be exercised in particular in the regions with a lot of snow, and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above the tree line. Sometimes avalanches are medium-sized.

Snowpack Structure

In some regions up to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. The wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on west to north to east facing aspects above the tree line. The snowpack remains unfavourable in particular on rather lightly snow-covered shady slopes. In particular slopes that have been little used this winter thus far where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are especially dangerous.

Tendency

The avalanche prone locations are covered with new snow. At elevated altitudes a moderate avalanche danger will be encountered in some regions.
