In sintesi

This is the last scheduled avalanche forecast for the 20/21 season. COAC ceases field operations at the end of April. I want to give a big thanks to everyone who used the avalanche center this year and to everyone who supported COAC. This organization exists because of community support. We will be back again in December.

The real bottom line: Friday is expected to be warm in the mountains with a daytime high temperature in the upper 40's to 50. Slopes in the direct sun will be softening and wet loose avalanches will be possible and are something to be aware of.  Wet loose avalanches will be small, but can be enough to cause skiers and riders to loose their footing in steep terrain.

    Wet loose avalanche activity will be very specific to the terrain and will mostly be associated with steep terrain in the direct sun during the warmer times of the day. As always, monitor the snow surface. As the surface becomes slushy to a depth of 6-8" or more, if you see rollerballs, if you see natural or human triggered wet loose avalanches, these are good indicators that you can trigger wet loose avalanches. These will be more of a concern in steep terrain that has some exposure to cliffs or falling hazard. 

Avalanche Discussion

The new snow from last weekend (~6") has had time to consolidate and has been in a melt/freeze cycle over the last few days. The snowpack is generally strong. Any avalanche activity will be related to warming of the surface snow. On these warm days, keep monitoring how deep the soft/slushy snow is. Use timing and aspect to find the best riding conditions and be cautious on steep slopes that show signs of potential for wet loose avalanches.

No recent avalanche activity has been reported.
