GC 21/03 Snowpack will re-freeze and consolidate remaining generally well bonded and stable in all locations. Avalanche Hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight, cool conditions will re-freeze the snowpack and it will remain generally well bonded and stable in all locations. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: High pressure will maintain dry and settled conditions. The strong South-Easterly winds will ease becoming light to moderate and veering slightly to Southerly in the afternoon. The freezing level will fall to around 1100 metres in the early hours of the morning, then rise to above the summits during the day. Observed Weather Influences: A crisp start to the day as the freezing level fell to around 600 metres last night. It was another dry, sunny day with fresh to strong South-Easterly winds. The freezing level rose to just above the summits by midday.

ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack re-froze last night and is generally well bonded and stable in all locations. The surface layer is icy and only softened slightly during the course of the day. The avalanche hazard is Low.
