Fresh wind slabs are to be avoided.
Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger. The fresh wind slabs can be released in isolated cases at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on steep shady slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. As a consequence of new snow and strong wind the prevalence and size of such avalanche prone locations will increase in the afternoon. They are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.
5 to 10 cm of snow will fall until late in the night. The wind will be strong to storm force. The strong wind will transport the fresh and old snow. The fresh wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on steep shady slopes. The old snowpack will be in most cases stable. At elevated altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
Increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.
