Tendency

The weather conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snow drift accumulations.

Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs represent the main danger.

The wind slabs can be released in some cases above approximately 2300 m. These are to be found in particular in the vicinity of peaks, caution is to be exercised at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. In particular along the border with France the avalanche prone locations are a little more prevalent. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 10 to 25 cm of snow fell in the last few days. The sometimes strong wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. Over a wide area various wind slab layers are lying on a hard crust. At higher altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In all regions below approximately 2000 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.
