Avalanche Discussion
( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Cooler air in a northwest flow lies along the northern edge of our forecast region. A low-pressure system in Nevada is directing limited moisture into the southern portion of our forecast area. On Saturday skies will be mostly cloudy with occasional periods of light snowfall. Temperatures will fall into the upper teens to 20’s tonight. Daytime highs will be in the upper 20’s and 30’s in the mountains and into the upper 30’s in the valleys. Westerly winds will be light.Humans who venture onto very steep terrain features at the upper elevations could trigger isolated pockets of slab up to 18 inches in depth. Even small slides can be deadly in cliff areas and steep chutes. At the lower elevations warm afternoon temperatures may create areas of wet unstable snow on very steep slopes. Evaluate terrain and conditions carefully. With the current stress on our health care community it’s worth being extra cautious. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be low.
