Over a wide area 40 to 60 cm of snow, and up to 80 cm in some localities, will fall until late in the night above approximately 1500 m. Over a wide area 10 to 25 cm of snow will fall until Tuesday above approximately 1000 m. On Monday the wind was strong to storm force over a wide area. Until Tuesday the wind will be strong to storm force over a wide area. The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs that are forming during the snowfall will become increasingly prone to triggering. The snowpack is unfavourably layered. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Several medium-sized to large natural dry avalanches have been released as the day progresses. Several slab avalanches have been released in the last few days.
The weather conditions will facilitate a gradual strengthening of the snowpack.
Further increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and strong wind.
As a consequence of snowfall above approximately 1000 m and the occasionally storm force northwesterly wind, the snow drift accumulations will increase in size in the course of the day. Towards the southeast the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. Especially on very steep slopes and on wind-loaded slopes numerous medium-sized and, in many cases, large natural avalanches are to be expected. Here the avalanches can be triggered in deep layers of the snowpack and reach very large size. In the typical avalanche paths in particular the avalanches can reach as far as the valley bottom and endanger transportation routes that are exposed. The conditions are very precarious for backcountry touring and other off-piste activities outside marked and open pistes. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches, including large ones. Caution is to be exercised on steep slopes, and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain.
