In the southern regions, precipitation will come to an end on Wednesday morning, conditions will turn sunny, temporarily. In the western and the northern regions, precipitation will be registered during the course of the day, most of which is expected to fall in the furthermost western part of the Lower Valais. The snowfall level will lie between 2200 and 2400 m. In the Bernina region, wintery conditions prevail at high alpine altitudes. The large amounts of fresh fallen snow and freshly generated snowdrift accumulations are gradually stabilising. In the high altitude zones of the remaining regions of Switzerland, there is already a thin, continuous snow cover in many places, particularly on shady slopes. On sunny slopes and below approximately 3000 m, the fresh snow is falling mostly on bare ground.

On Thursday and on Friday, precipitation is expected to fall over widespread areas, most of it in the western and the northern regions. The snowfall level will ascend on Thursday from 2200 up to nearly 2800 m, subsequently descend on Thursday night back down to nearly 2000 m. Above 3000 m, 40 to 70 cm of fresh fallen snow is anticipated in the furthermost western part of the Lower Valais by Friday morning, in the remaining parts of the Valais and on the northern flank of the Alps 15 to 30 cm. During the course of the day on Friday, it is expected to be quite sunny for a limited time. In the regions with the most new snow, the avalanche danger at high altitudes will increase, significantly so in the furthermost western part of the Lower Valais. In the Bernina region the situation at high alpine altitudes is expected to remain delicate.
