You could trigger an avalanche where a cohesive slab of wind-drifted or settled snow sits over weak snow. The most dangerous slopes face north, northeast, and east near treeline. Avoid trigger points near rocks, on convex rolls, and on the edges of slopes where the margins of the slab are thinnest. If you observe cracking or collapsing in the snow surface, move to lower-angled terrain to reduce the chances of triggering an avalanche.
