In sintesi

Dangerous avalanche conditions continue. Backcountry travelers could easily trigger slab avalanches two to four feet deep on all aspects and elevations. On southerly aspects, warm temperatures and periods of sunshine could make these slides more susceptible to failure, along with increasing the possibility of natural activity. Yesterday, a snowboarder triggered a two foot soft slab on the upper skier’s right side of Glory Bowl. He was carried over cliff bands, but luckily not seriously injured or buried. Numerous other natural and human triggered slides also occurred on a variety of aspects at all elevations. Careful snowpack evaluation, cautious route finding, conservative decision making and the ability to resist peer pressure will all be essential for safe travel in avalanche terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

A ridge of high pressure will move into the region on Monday along with warm air aloft creating strong temperature inversions. Mountain temperatures will rise into the 30s. Skies will be mostly clear and westerly ridgetop winds will back to the southwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE on Monday. Backcountry travelers venturing into steep terrain are likely to trigger slab avalanches two to four feet in depth on a variety of aspects at all elevations. On southerly aspects, warm temperatures and sunshine will make these slides more susceptible to failure and make natural activity possible. Evaluate the snowpack carefully, use cautious route finding and make conservative decisions.
