Second, deeper weak layers of faceted snow persist in steep, rocky areas with a shallow snowpack. On Friday a 3 foot deep hard slab was skier released on Angle Mountain. On Thursday, the fourth snowmobiler in a group of eight was killed in the Lionhead area as he crossed low on a slope and started the slide from below. Similar avalanche events could be encountered today as the underlying snow will continue to slowly weaken.
