Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs above approximately 2500 m. Increase in danger of dry and moist avalanches as a consequence of warming.

A clear night will be followed in the early morning by sometimes favourable conditions generally. As a consequence of warming and solar radiation, the natural avalanche activity will increase. Several medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are to be expected in particular on steep sunny slopes. Fresh wind slabs are mostly easy to recognise but can in some cases be released easily. This applies even in case of a single winter sport participant in some cases. The wind slabs of the last two days are to be avoided as far as possible above approximately 2500 m. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the high Alpine regions, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 40 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Sunday above approximately 2500 m. Fresh wind slabs are mostly easy to recognise but can in some cases be released easily. This applies even in case of a single winter sport participant in some cases. From late morning the weather will be mostly sunny. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area.
