New snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.
Fresh snow and large quantities of wind-drifted snow are prone to triggering. As a consequence of new snow and a strong wind, further wind slabs will form in the course of the day. In these regions the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. More frequent dry avalanches are possible in the late morning. In particular on shady slopes these can be released in the faceted old snow and reach large size. The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Off-piste activities call for extensive experience and restraint.
20 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 2000 m. Over a wide area 25 to 60 cm of snow has fallen since Thursday above approximately 2000 m. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2000 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Shady slopes: The old snowpack is faceted and weak.
The avalanche danger will decrease gradually, but only during the night.
